A Natural Red Oak Floor From the Ground Up
The homeowner in New Kent came to us with a clear vision: a straightforward, natural red oak floor with no stain — just the honest warmth of the wood itself. The existing subfloor was exposed and in good condition, giving us a clean slate for a full installation.
The Goal
The homeowner wanted a floor that felt timeless and unfussy — no dark stain, no gray wash. Just a clear-finished red oak that would age gracefully and complement the existing interior. Durability and ease of future maintenance were also priorities.
The Coastal Approach
We installed 3-inch select red oak planks, nailed down across the subfloor with tight, consistent spacing. Once laid, the entire floor was site-sanded in passes from coarse through fine grit to bring out a perfectly smooth, uniform surface. We then applied Loba 2K Duo — a two-component waterborne finish that locks in the natural color of the wood with zero ambering, producing a crisp, clear satin sheen that protects without altering the oak's character.
The project ran six working days from first board to final coat — on schedule, on spec, and exactly what the homeowner asked for.
