This Ford's Colony home in Williamsburg featured wide-plank white oak flooring installed throughout the main living areas, dining room, and hallways. Over time, the original satin finish had worn thin in high-traffic paths, leaving the floors looking dull and uneven — with visible scratches across the dining room and entry.
The homeowners had heard enough horror stories about sanding dust infiltrating furniture, HVAC systems, and cabinetry. Their primary concern was cleanliness — they were also keen to preserve the natural light tone of white oak rather than introduce any amber or yellow cast from an oil-based finish.
We performed a full dustless sand using our Lägler drum sanders connected directly to commercial HEPA vacuums — capturing 97–99% of airborne dust at the source. After sanding to bare wood, we applied a water-based sealer followed by two coats of Bona Traffic HD in a satin sheen. The water-based system kept the white oak's cool, natural tone exactly as the homeowners wanted, with no yellowing and excellent long-term durability.
