How the job went
This Ford's Colony home had solid red oak flooring running through the formal living room, dining room, and main hallway. After 20-plus years, the original honey-tone oil-based finish had heavily ambered and scratched, leaving the floors looking dated and inconsistent across rooms.
The Challenge
After an interior remodel, the homeowners wanted a darker, richer floor instead of the orange cast of the old finish. Years of spot refinishing had left that finish thick and uneven, so the floor had to be sanded back to bare wood before any stain would go on evenly.
The Coastal Solution
We did a full dustless sand with our Bona cyclone system hooked to commercial HEPA vacuums, taking off the old finish and leaving the floor flat. Once the oak was bare and had settled, we mixed Bona DriFast Stain into a custom Jacobean blend and tried it on a sample board first so the homeowners could sign off. Two coats of Bona Traffic HD in satin went on top to protect the color with a tough waterborne finish that won't yellow.
