Around Virginia Beach

Every neighborhood is hard on floors in its own way.

Sun, salt, sand and the age of the house all change how we refinish. Pick your area.

North End & Bay Colony

What we see
Floor-to-ceiling windows pour sun onto the floor, which fades the wood and shows every grain of sand.
What we do
A UV-resistant commercial finish in an extra-matte sheen. It slows fading and hides sand while letting light white oak stay light.
Usually: Bona Traffic HD, extra matte

Choosing a finish

Four finishes, four different looks.

The finish decides how your floor looks, how it handles sand, and how soon you can walk on it. Tap one to compare.

How it goes

From worn finish to new floor in four steps.

  1. Dust-contained sanding

Old, yellowed finish comes off through finer and finer grits, down to clean bare wood.

  2. Stain samples on your floor

We brush 3 or 4 colors right onto your sanded boards so you can see them in your own light.

  3. Water-popping and stain

Raising the grain lets stain soak in evenly, from Nordic white to natural oak to espresso.

  4. Protective coats

Several coats of commercial waterborne finish, built to stand up to sand and moisture.

Virginia Beach refinishing FAQ

Sand from the beach has scratched our floors. Will refinishing last?

Longer with a hard two-part finish, mats at every door and frequent dry mopping.

Still have a question?Call or text us anytime.
01Can you refinish engineered floors in our Kempsville home?

Usually once or twice, depending on the wear layer. We check thickness first.

02Which sheen hides sand scratches best?

Matte or satin. Gloss reflects light like a mirror and shows every fine scratch from beach sand, while lower sheens hide them.

03How long is the house off-limits?

Most jobs take two to four days, with light walking after 24 hours.

04How long does refinishing take in a Sandbridge vacation rental before guests arrive?

With our commercial two-part waterborne finish, most refinishing jobs take 2 to 3 days. You can walk on it in socks after one day, and furniture can go back the next day with waterborne finish, or after about 72 hours with oil, which keeps rental downtime short.

05Can you remove dark pet stains and water spots from historic Thoroughgood hardwood?

Deep pet stains and water rings from plant pots often soak through the finish into the wood. While sanding, we treat these with wood bleach. If a stain has ruined the wood, we weave in new matching oak boards before staining so the patch blends in.

06Why are modern matte and satin finishes preferred over high-gloss near the Oceanfront?

High-gloss finishes act like a mirror, reflecting blinding sunlight from large oceanfront windows and highlighting every grain of beach sand or micro-scratch. Matte and satin finishes softly diffuse natural light, so the floor looks clean far longer.

★★★★★

"Our floors in North End had 20 years of wear from kids and sand. Coastal Floors sanded them completely dust-free and the matte finish looks incredible in the sunlight."
